Why Should Dog Owners Have a Fenced Yard?

Hercules DC Dog Owners Fenced Yard

Whenever possible, dog owners should have a fenced yard that can keep their furry family member safe and secure.

Families with dogs quickly understand the need to have a fenced yard. There are so many reasons that this is important, not the least of which is that it keeps them safe in multiple ways. In addition, anyone hoping to adopt a dog from a shelter will find it very difficult if they don’t have a fenced yard. Having a dog is a joy, and a fenced yard makes life with a dog a lot easier and much less stressful.

Containment

First and foremost, a good fence keeps your dog on your property. Like children, dogs are notoriously curious, and they want to go out and explore the world around them. Unfortunately, also like children, they aren’t aware of all of the dangers lurking on the other side of your property line. Dogs that run off are prone to being injured. They can be struck by a vehicle, get their collar caught, or be attacked by another animal. Another issue to consider is that they can sometimes be picked up by people who don’t know how to reach you, and your dog may end up at a shelter or being kept by someone who found them without you knowing.

Keeping your dog contained in your fenced yard is one of the best ways to keep them safe from danger, and it ensures that you always know where they are. It also keeps your neighbors off of your back by keeping your dog’s waste contained in your yard. Few things can anger a neighbor faster than a rogue dog using their property as a bathroom.

Protection

Fences don’t just keep people and pets in, they also keep other people and animals out. A solid fence will keep people from picking up your dog, whether by accident or on purpose. It will also keep out potentially dangerous wildlife such as foxes, coyotes, and even deer or raccoons. It may seem like a dog could hold its own against some prey animals or smaller critters, but a wild animal that has been cornered has the potential to attack, and this could lead to serious problems, including open wounds, infections, and even rabies. Keeping your property clear of unwanted guests is important for keeping your dog safe.

A Safe Place to Play

A fenced yard doesn’t just keep your dog safe, it also provides a fun place for them to play. Your yard can have agility equipment added to it, set up a kiddie pool, and add lots of toys and shaded areas to make it into a little haven for your pup. It can be a wonderful place for you and your dog to spend quality time together, and it gives your dog a place to burn off their excess energy.
