Reasons it Might Be Time to Replace Your Fence

Hercules Fence of Washington DC Replace Your Fence

If your fence just isn’t living up to your standards, it might be time to replace it.

Your fence is one of the hardest working things on your property – it protects you and your family (and pets), secures your stuff and your property, and it even improves your home’s curb appeal. Well-made and well-maintained fences can provide privacy from prying eyes while also dampening the sounds of traffic around your home. If the fence you already have isn’t living up to these promises, it may be time to replace your fence. Read on to learn about three major signs that you should consider replacing your fence this season

It’s Not Meeting Your Needs

Depending on what you have going on on your property, the fence may be doing even more work than you think. For instance, if you have a pool, in many areas, you legally have to have a fence to keep that pool secure and keep people safe. If your fence is broken or isn’t securing your property, you could be liable. This is a great clue that you need to replace your fence, but it isn’t the only way that a fence might not be meeting your needs. It also may not be tall enough, secure enough, or solid enough. If you want better sound dampening, more privacy, or a higher fence for a dog who jumps, those are also good reasons to replace.

It’s Too High-Maintenance

Fences do take work and maintenance, but some materials take more than others. If you have a higher-maintenance fence right now and you know that you won’t be able to maintain it, it may be worthwhile to replace it now. You could simply let the fence weather and deteriorate over the next few years and then replace it, but that could put you in a tight spot then if something else comes up. Perhaps you have the budget to do it this year, and you may not in the next few years. This is a solid reason to take the plunge, even if the current fence isn’t completely in need of replacing. If however, the current fence is broken and busted already from a lack of maintenance, you should definitely consider replacing it as it’s a safety hazard.

It’s Ugly

It is also totally okay to want to replace your fence simply because you don’t like it. If it isn’t aesthetically pleasing to you, or it no longer matches your house, or any other visual reason, go ahead and replace it if you have the budget. An ugly fence is not a good reason to go into debt you can’t afford, but if you can, it is certainly reason enough.
