Warm Weather Means Residential Fence Repair

Spring is a great time to consider fence repair.

When the spring rolls around and the warmer weather kicks in, the first thing that you’ll want to do is enjoy your outdoor areas with your friends and family. With all the promise of the fun and entertaining to come, now is the best time to start considering beautifying your landscapes and yard — starting with freshening your residential fence. Depending upon the materials that you opted for, any needed repairs from the winter’s cold winds and snow may be a minimum. Here are a few things to consider when assessing your fence, no matter the materials.

Assessing Damage and Making Repairs

The first thing that you’ll want to do is take a good walk around your entire property line and assess your residential fence for any damage that may have occurred. Aside from the unsightliness of a damaged, chipped, or faded fence can bring, for security and safety reasons this step is crucial. Take a good look for any boards or areas where there might be weaknesses, and — if you have an iron or gated fence — take a thorough look around for any rust that the winter may have brought. If you have an aluminum fence, your maintenance needs may not be too severe, but you’ll still need to take a few precautions. The weight of heavy snow can dent or damage an aluminum residential fence, and the winter winds  can also cause shifting gravel and soil which makes fences less stable and secure. For a wood fence, you may also want to be aware of any spots where paint has chipped or worn away. If a fresh coat of paint is in order, take a warm afternoon to head outside and give the fence a good washing before proceeding with any painting project.
