Three Methods for Vinyl Fencing Maintenance

A white picket fence has never been easier than with vinyl fencing. Fence maintenance is hassle-free with vinyl fencing, making it the ideal choice for many homeowners. Unlike real wood fences, vinyl fencing can be cleaned a variety of ways ensuring that no stain remains permanent.

With the White House practically in your backyard in Washington D.C. it is always nice to have a home with good curb appeal. Curb appeal is of course the goal, especially in Washington D.C. as you’re surrounded by some of the nicest homes in America, but so is efficiency. You don’t want a fence that will require lots of maintenance. That’s when vinyl fencing comes in. Yes, vinyl fencing does get stains just like any other fence would, but the difference is its easy maintenance. Here are some tips for the maintenance and cleaning of your current or future vinyl fence.

Vinyl-fencing-maintenance Cleaning Method #1 – Just Soap and Water

As simple as it sounds soap and water can be very effective when cleaning light stains off of vinyl fencing. All you need is a hose with a sprayer, scrubbing brush, dish soap to do the trick. The water will take most surface stains off, but for the more stubborn stains use soap to scrub and the water to rinse for the effective clean. For a vinyl fence this will work great for the majority of stains. Unlike a wood fence, vinyl fencing takes very little effort to make it look good as new.

Cleaning Method #2 – Bleach the Stains Away

This method is very tougher stains, for everything from grass to food. First dilute the bleach down in a bucket with water. Depending on the color of you fence (the whiter the fence, the more bleach can be used) and the stubbornness of the stain decide how many parts bleach and how many parts water. Use this mixture to scrub the stains off your vinyl fencing until it looks brand new again.

Cleaning Method #3 – For the Really Stubborn Stains

For vinyl fencing, really stubborn stains like tar, grease, and even grass are fairly unlikely unless you’re really tough on your fence. For tar or grease you are going to need a tar remover and rubber gloves to protect your hands. The trick to removing these stains is to not scrub, just gently rub the stain or else you’ll create another stain in the process of removing the initial stain. After you do this make sure to rinse the fence with water.

Very rarely will there be a stain on vinyl fencing you can’t remove because fence maintenance is simply so much easier with vinyl fencing than with the alternatives. Looking for vinyl fencing or just want to talk to a professional about fence maintenance? Look to Hercules first!
